Copywriters vs feedback

As a freelance copywriter, one of the glories of this gig, isn't just about writing skills and the output we can generate, it’s client feedback. 🙌

I don't always make time to ask for it, but when I do I'm always thankful. Because there's always something to learn. I might not have appreciated my input from the client's perspective.

And I'm very good at telling myself a different story. A negative one.

Have I got the balance right when I gently nudge for copy feedback?
I'm conscious not to chase too much, I appreciate my clients often have more pressing demands on their time, but likewise I don't want the job to lose momentum. So getting the balance right is key.

Have I understood the technical aspects as well as I think I have?
Having a client tell me they were so glad they didn't have to keep repeating the technical details - because I got it - saved time and rounds of unnecessary edits.

Ultimately, client feedback helps me:
✔️ Understand client needs with crystal-clarity
✔️ Fine-tune my writing to meet the brand, the voice, the brief
✔️ Deliver impactful copy that lands full square and centre with their reader

But way beyond the tweaks and edit, client feedback makes me better.

And better's good, right?

Feedback gives us copywriters the scope to improve, appreciate different perspectives, and ultimately, deliver more value with every, single, project. 🖋️💡

So, to my clients: THANK YOU for your insights, your patience, and your collaboration. I love writing for you all!
(In particular, Natasha Brown and the fabulous team at FORTH® Building Services who I've been writing case studies with over the past few months.)

Your feedback doesn’t just shape my copywriting output — it shapes my progress as a writer.

And to fellow freelancers: Lean in to the feedback. The positive, the negative, the constructive, the critical, the downright fabulous; it’s our route to awesome. 🚀
