When to stop editing?

When to stop editing.

That is the question.

Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer. The typos and clunky phrasing of outrageous fortune, Or to take arms against a sea of sloppy content, And by opposing end them…. (Hamlet, Act III, genius Shakespeare guy)

If you have ever read one of my Linked In posts, you may have noticed it’s ALWAYS edited. Probably 9 times out of 10.

I can’t help myself. I’ll write it - never planned, always shooting from the hip - but then I’ll publish, read and edit.

Tweak a word, replace 3 with 1, trim the guff, make sure it flows nicely, add some air between paragraphs, sling in the odd single line, add a call to action (if I remember!)

It’s the same with all the copy I write. It’s never right first time.

And no, I don’t mean “perfect” - wash your mouth out right now. “Perfect” is a construct society has created to drive you into a deep, dark hole of misery.

BETTER is what we're aiming for. Every time. And if a little editing gets there, then I’m all up for it.

Simples.

My writing process?

Discover. Think. Write. Edit. Edit. Release.

Shakespeare would agree.
